Ukwala, Kenya (Matibabu)
Deep red earth and lush, verdant forests form my most pressing memories to Ugenya. After visiting the Maasai camp, I teamed up with the folks at the Matibabu Foundation to visit their rural health projects in Ukwala, Kenya.
Few tourists make it to this area of Kenya, but it's not without enough charms to make it a hotspot if it ever had the infrastructure. The health clinic is a bit outside of town, located on a long, dusty red road. The services it offers is the only like it for hundreds of miles. The project also launched a nursing school to help supply more specialized education in the region.
The children in the village were excited by my presence and posed and preened in front of the camera. Ukwala charmed me, and I'd love to make it back there one day.
