Bosnia

On my round the world trip in 2008-2009, I visited Bosnia & Herzegovina — I fell in love with the country hook, line, and sinker. With the war still so recently in history, the people in the Balkans have a strong spirit of resilience. They were also kind, and I found the mix of cultures fascinating.

I found an unexpected number of tourist attractions and beautiful spots. Trekking the Balkans is also incredibly popular — the mountain trails are less touristed than treks in nearby Western Europe.

In all, I highly recommend that travelers visit Bosnia & Herzegovina. It won me over with it's charm and beauty. Outside of Mostar, where cruiseship passengers flock from the docks in Croatia, it's low-key and an easy pace to travel.

If you're planning to visit, find stories, tips, history, and everything you should know before you go in my Bosnia-Herzegovina travel guide:
